This beautiful old man from Lesotho must have been photographed more than 20 years ago. A missionary friend of mine spent many years in Africa. She was a nurse and stayed many year with her husband in Children in the bush in Africa. Originally from Sweden she was a very loving and wise friend, mother and mentor. Many years later she moved to London with her Scottish husband and commissioned some paintings for her and her great family of friends.
I did a study of this elderly man in pastel as well as watercolour. Pastel on white paper is very difficult for you need to build enough colour without taking any off to get the deep fealing of the colours.
